I have been experimenting in the shop lately. This is what I have come up with. A cross between the goblets that I make and the decorative bent stem pieces. The pieces are extraordinarily fun to make and they are definitely one of a kind. They are purely decorative. I'm often asked what are they used for? The answer their purpose is to bring smiles to faces. If they do that then they have done their job. These pieces are turned from Apple wood. Thanks for looking.

The pieces in this set of 3 measure from between 7.5" tall to 5.5" tall, and from 2.5 to 3" in diameter. They are finished with Walnut oil.

This handmade wood bowl is turned from Sycamore wood. One of the finer hardwoods. Its close grained and very durable which makes it wonderful for kitchen stuffs. I turned this bowl green(while the wood was still wet) and after it had dried to its somewhat warped shape, it was sanded smooth to retain the primitive look after the drying out process. Thanks for looking.

* Bowl measures:
*3" tall by 9" in diameter

*Bowls are intended for daily use, just a hand washing in the sink with detergent and warm water and towel dry.

*Of course my family and I use wood bowls on a daily basis. It is my experience that the investment is well worth it. There is nothing like eating out of a wood bowl!

They say that some wood has the "flame" figure in it. Well I decided to accentuate that characteristic and add some most enriching color. The color really does help bring out the figure more prominently. The rim of the bowl has stripped of its bark and sanded smooth to create an organic look and feel. Although I have left the spiny remnants on the rim! They add some wonderful character. The inside has been left natural for the contrast in colors. This bowl will make a stunning addition to any home. Thanks for looking.

This bowl measures 5.25" tall by 6.5" in diameter. It is finished with mineral oil.

This piece was the first in hopefully many more to come. The name Stone Elm refers to the actual look of the piece. It was achieved by taking a wire brush to the piece as it was spinning on the lathe. It created a wonderful feel and texture that is great to look at and feels 3 dimensional, as opposed to being smooth. It has the look of weathered sandstone. This piece is decorative. This was turned from a crotch piece of Elm( meaning the section where two branches split apart) so there is a nice void directly in the bottom, it gives the piece a wonderful character. As if there are two eyes looking at you when you turn it over! Thanks for looking.

Rapture - an intense feeling of pleasure and joy. That just about sums up my experience making this piece. I love experimenting with wood and different textures. The outside of this bowl has been textured to give the vessel a warm tactile feel. The inside is sanded smooth, to present a contrast with the outside. The piece was dyed black and sanded back and then the exposed areas were colored red. A wonderfully primitive piece that will be right at home in any modern setting. Thanks for looking.

I am simple, that would be simply beautiful...I take pride in the fact that I am easy on the eyes and wonderfully smooth to the touch. My color and grain are a great example of the grain of the Elm tree. So having said all that please feel free to enjoy your favorite snack or personal salad in me. I would absolutely love it. Thanks for looking.

The title of this piece says it all. This bowl was turned while the wood was still wet to finish thickness. Then it was put in the microwave for some rapid drying and viola. The grain and density of the wood determines what the final product will look like. So no two pieces are the same for sure. This bowl is very light and beautiful. A bit of whimsy to your decor. It is made from Sycamore wood. Thanks for looking.
