Tiny tarantula spiders....lots of them! I created the image and then permanently fired it onto one of my small handmade tiles - fun for Halloween or any time of the year!

I rolled a thin slab of porcelain clay and cut it into a small tile, smoothed the edges and the back, and fired it for the first time. Then I glazed it with a soft satin matte stoneware glaze and fired it a second time to 2165 F (cone 6). After that I added a laser decal of spiders and fired it for the third time to 1954 (cone 04) to permanently adhere the image to the surface of the glazed tile. The back has been left unglazed and is very smooth to the touch. A very strong neodymium magnet is permanently attached to the back.

It measures approximately 1 7/8" wide x 2 1/4 tall".

If you'd rather have me make this into an ornament, just send me a convo and I'll make it so!

Please convo me with any questions or special glaze color requests. Thanks!!

Frog Drummer - musical amphibian magnet glazed in azure blue.

Here is one happy frog drumming away!

The image of this frog has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one with my transparent azure blue crackle. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

I carved the image in wax and then poured a plaster mould. After extruding a thin slab of porcelain clay, the plaster mould is pressed into the clay, the tile is cut around the edges. After drying, the edges are sponged, the tile is fired, glazed, and fired again. A lot of work for a little piece of art! Each one is slightly different - because they're handmade!

Spider ornament for home decor - arachnid lovers delight!.

Homage to a spider that I squashed...tiny version. Wouldn't it be fun to find this spider hanging on your tree, in your window, or as a gift tag on that gift for someone special??!!

The image of this spider has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one with a black underglaze in the details and over glazed with my transparent turquoise crackle. I've taken this delicately carved little tile and attached a small ribbon for hanging securely on the back.

DETAILS
?handmade ceramic tile
?1 3/4" x 2 1/8" and very thin
?glazed black in details - turquoise glossy over all
?small ribbon securely attached on back for hanging

If you'd prefer to have it made into a magnet - just let me know and I'll make it so!

I based this small tile on an original larger one that I carved as homage to a spider that I squashed. In all fairness to myself, it clearly crossed the personal space boundaries posted in my studio policies. AND, it came upon me without notice, and JUMPING at that, so it wasn't pre-meditated squashing, but it was well deserved. I don't make it a habit of squashing spiders, and when they appear near or on me when I'm outside, I usually just brush them away. I admit this one gave me quit a start. Hey, even Miss Muffett, who I hear was known for her calm, collected manner, reacted in a poor fashion when surprised by an arachnid.

Another fun Halloween decoration for your home....a skeleton embossed on my handmade ceramic tile.

This small tile was created by pressing a plaster mould that I made into a soft slab of clay, and then using one of my handmade stamps to create a border all around it. I used an underglaze black to highlight the bones of the skeleton, then glazed the center with a glossy yellow. The border is glazed in my glossy turquoise.

It measure approximately 2 1/4 wide x 4" high.

It doesn't currently have a magnet on the back, but let me know if you'd like one.

Here is one happy frog drumming away!

The image of this frog has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one with my transparent goldenrod crackle. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

This beautiful handmade tile trivet has images of a sea slug illustration on it. What an amazing gift for the marine biologist in your life!!

This handmade ceramic tile measures approximately 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" square, and has been high fired to 2150*F with a soft white matte glaze. After it came out of the kiln it was refired an iron rich decal which was applied and permanently fired on at 1950*F. The image is an illustration of a sea slug, by Ernst Haeckel. There are 4 cork feet on the bottom, and a decal with my name on it.

Hand washing is suggested due to the cork feet on the bottom.

Here's a pirate skeleton with a fancy blue hat....shiver me timbers!!!

I created this tiny tile by pressing one of my handmade clay stamps into a piece of porcelain clay, and leaving a small clay border around it. Then I cut it into a rectangle and fired it a first time. After it came out of the kiln, I rubbed black under glaze into the pattern, and after rubbing it off of the raised design, I hand applied a blue transparent glaze to the hat, clear crackle to the skeleton and background, and yellow to the border of the tile, and fired it a second time - a lot of time to create this tiny tile! It measures about 2 1/4" across, 2 3/4" high.

A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. If you'd rather have it with a ribbon to hang from your favorite tree, just let me know and I'll make it so!

The Mad Hatter gestures and pontificates and is very amusing....and fun to carve!

I'm so excited about my new series of tiles based on John Tenniel's illustrations for "Alice In Wonderland"!

The details in this tile are really amazing. I carved the tile in wax, poured a plaster mould, and hand pressed the mould into a slab of porcelain clay.

It measures approximately 4" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. I've glazed the tile in my glossy goldenrod crackle.
