Mission Bungalow style wall decor - oak framed handmade tile for your craftsman style home.

My beautiful Dutch windmill handmade ceramic decorative tile is framed by a gorgeous handmade oak frame and what a stunning combination they are!

This charming handmade tile depicts a Dutch windmill, hand painted in Craftsman-style matte glaze. The tile measures approximately 4" x 4", varying slightly due to it's handmade nature.

I carved the design in wax, then poured a plaster mould. The mould is then handpressed into wet porcelain clay, fired, glazed, and fired again.

The Dutch windmill pairs perfectly with the Dutch house.

For the back of a vanity sink, or wash basin at the beachhouse... here is a set of tiles with several features. Most prominent is the Shell and Ribbon tile. Notice that the design is accentuated with a wash of color that is tuned to the field tile and the cap.

The backsplash is topped by an architectural square cap.

For color we chose Azure Blue crackled glaze for the decorative tile and navy blue for the liners. The field tile and is a mix of our popular blue/gray/gold mottled glaze. Note the addition of circle "corners" to fill out the design.

The entire piece is 16 x 23.5 inches.

Please note: I will supply cut tiles to finish out the edges before shipping. See https://www.etsy.com/listing/273401024/shell-and-ribbon-tiled-backsplash-for?ref=listing-shop-header-1

With a small pail of mastic and grey grout (not included), this could be set and done in about 45 minutes.

Also please note that some variation in size and color are signature features of handmade tile.

The backsplash is topped by a tidy round cap, which creates an architectural detail.

For color we chose Azure Blue crackled glaze for the decorative tile and liners. The field tile and round cap are two shades of periwinkle blue.

The cap is called "confetti", it is intended to be lighthearted without being goofy.

For color we chose two densities of our blue crackled glaze.

Here is one happy frog fiddling away!

The image of this frog has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one in a transparent fern green crackle -- actually bit bluer than the image shows. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

I carved the image in wax and then poured a plaster mould. After extruding a thin slab of porcelain clay, the plaster mould is pressed into the clay, the tile is cut around the edges. After drying, the edges are sponged, the tile is fired, glazed, and fired again. A lot of work for a little piece of art! Each one is slightly different - because they're handmade!

If you'd prefer to have it made into a pin or a hanging ornament - just let me know and I'll make it so!

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community!

This handmade ceramic tile depicts the profile of a woman circa the Victorian era, and was created to adorn the facade of a fireplace. It can be used anywhere in your home to create a stunning centerpiece.

It was custom carved for the Ravenswood Historical Site in Livermore, CA., to sit opposite one of our other female portraits. The whole layout can be seen in the last photo.

The tile measures approximately 5 7/8" square, and is glazed in fern green glossy crackle glaze.

I carved the image in wax and then poured a plaster mould, which was then pressed into wet clay using our hand press. After first firing in our "bisque" fire, the tiles was glazed and re-fired to about 2150*F. A beautiful and permanent addition to any fireplace, kitchen, or bath.

The image on this tile was designed and created by well-known poet, designer and artist Tessa Nin Crosby, who also happens to be my very talented niece.

This handmade ceramic tile measures approximately 4" x 4" square, and has been high fired to 2150*F with a soft white matte glaze. After it came out of the kiln it was re-fired an iron rich decal which was applied and permanently fired on at 1950*F. The image is an imaginative and meditative motif created by Tessa Crosby. There are 4 cork feet on the bottom.

Hand washing is suggested due to the cork feet on the bottom.

Small Spider magnet for any spooky time of the year!

Homage to a spider that I squashed...tiny version of handmade ceramic tile.

The image of this spider has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one with an underglaze black that has been wiped off to show the details, and then overglazed with a transparent turquoise gloss.

I based this small tile on an original larger one that I carved as homage to a spider that I squashed. In all fairness to myself, it clearly crossed the personal space boundaries posted in my studio policies. AND, it came upon me without notice, and JUMPING at that, so it wasn't pre-meditated squashing, but it was well deserved. I don't make it a habit of squashing spiders, and when they appear near or on me when I'm outside, I usually just brush them away. I admit this one gave me quit a start. Hey, even Miss Muffett, who I hear was known for her calm, collected manner, reacted in a poor fashion when surprised by an arachnid.
