This architectural blueprint will add interest and history to any wall in your house. This print depicts a blueprint cross-section of the interior and exterior of Scituate Lighthouse in Scituate Harbor in Massachussetts. It was created using vintage public domain blueprints obtained from the Historic American Buildings Survey.

The Scituate Lighthouse was built in 1810 and first lit in 1811. It was the 11th lighthouse built in the United States. It was discontinued in 1860 when Minot's Ledge was built. In the early 1900s the town of Scituate purchased the lighthouse to save it from going to auction, and built a new lantern room atop the lighthouse to keep it looking nice and well-kept.

In 1994 Scituate Lighthouse was lit again for the first time in 134 years and is the pride and joy of the town of Scituate.

Part of Scarlet Blvd's Architectural Blueprint series, this art print of Minot's Ledge Light will add history and interest to any wall in your home.

Minots Ledge is one of many groups of rocky outcroppings off the coast of Scituate, and has been the scene of countless shipwrecks. Between 1832 and 1841 there were 40 wrecks on this and neighboring reefs. After the first light station on the ledge, an unstable open-work iron structure, collapsed into the sea (killing the two watchmen on duty) on April 17, 1851, plans were drawn up for this new stone structure. This print was created using vintage public domain blueprints obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration.

The new lighthouse was finished by mid-August 1860 and the light first exhibited August 22, 1860. The light was not regularly shone, however, until November 15, 1860, when Joshua Wheeler, the new keeper, and two assistants entered upon their duties.

"Be it known that I, Joseph W. Norcross, of the city of Boston, county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pulley-Blocks; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

"In wooden pulley-blocks as heretofore constructed the wood is liable to split where the rivets pass through-the wood, and in iron pulley-blocks the rope is liable to be chafed and injured by contact with the iron sides.

"The object of this invention is to combine the advantages of both constructions, relieve the wood of all strain, and secure it against the metal frame, so as to protect the same."
